Our approach to quoting

We get asked this a lot: why do we charge for quotes?

The short answer is that putting together a proper construction quote takes time. A lot of time. For most renovations or custom builds, it can take over 40 hours.

We’re not just plugging numbers into a template. We review your plans and engineering drawings in detail, speak with our trades and suppliers, gather accurate pricing, and check for anything specific to your site. It’s thorough because it has to be.

You wouldn’t expect an architect, engineer, or interior designer to give you 40 hours of their time for free. The same applies to builders. Our time and expertise have value, especially when this stage sets the foundation for your entire project.

That’s why we charge for it. If you go ahead with us, that fee comes off your contract. So in the end, you’re not paying extra. It simply becomes part of your build.

We always begin with a ballpark estimate. It’s free, and it’s based on the scope you give us. It’s not a vague price per square metre. If you’re happy with that figure, we then move forward with a fully itemised quote.

Some builders offer free quotes. But often they’re not detailed. Key information can be missed, which leads to problems later with cost, timing, or expectations. We’d rather be clear upfront.

There’s also a wider industry issue. Since Covid, many builders have gone out of business. A big part of that is underquoting. Rushed, inaccurate pricing doesn’t help anyone in the long run.

So yes, we charge for our quotes. Not to make things difficult, but to do the job properly. And if you choose to build with us, you’re not paying for it twice.
